While your seasonal palette is a great guide to your most harmonious tones, it doesn't account for every detail. Fabric, finish and contrast all play a huge role in how a colour actually looks on you.
Is the fabric or texture changing the colour?
The same colour can look like two different shades depending on the material. A bright, saturated red might look vibrant in silk or a synthetic knit, but look duller and dustier in heavy wool or brushed cotton. This happens because textures reflect light differently. A matte fabric absorbs light, making the colour look softer, while a smooth fabric reflects light, making the colour appear more intense. If you are picking a colour that sits at the softer end of your palette but choosing it in a shiny satin, it might feel a bit too much for you.
Are you considering the depth of the garment?
Every seasonal palette includes a range of shades from very light to quite dark. If you are a Light Summer, for example, your palette contains both pale sky blue and deep grey-blue. If you find the darker blue looks heavy or draining, it might just be that you are leaning too far into the darker end of your range. While you can wear those colours, your sweet spot is likely in the lighter or mid-tones. Could it be a matter of contrast?
